PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: NPHHS Block Grant Workplan Review

The FSM Preventive Health Block Grant (PHHS) Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing to discuss the 2024 FSM PHHS Block Grant Community Projects. The projects include the Access to Safe and Clean Water to Underserved Communities Project, the Combating NCDs through Sports and Youth Engagement Project, and the Sexual Offense Project. The hearing will take place at the Riverside Conference Room and virtually via Zoom on July 17, 2024, at 11:30 AM Pohnpei/Kosrae time, and 10:30 AM Chuuk/Yap time.

TB + Leprosy Free Chuuk Campaign Update

The TB and Leprosy Free Chuuk Campaign conducted mass screenings for TB, Hansen’s disease, and diabetes in the Mortlock and Hall Islands from May 23 to June 11, 2024. The campaign saw high community participation, screening 1,433 individuals, performing over 400 chest X-rays, and identifying 24 active TB cases and 172 latent TB cases. Additionally, 1,100 people received medication to prevent leprosy, and 120 individuals tested positive for diabetes, with 74 newly diagnosed. The campaign was a collaborative effort involving local health services, volunteers, and external partners. Further screening campaigns and strong contact investigations are planned to continue the fight against TB and leprosy in Chuuk.

FSM emphasized robust immunization programs, highlighted the threat of AMR, and advocated for stronger emergency response capacities. They reaffirmed commitment to global health goals and were elected as a Vice Chair of the WHO Executive Board, reflecting FSM’s growing influence in global health governance.
