FSM Participates in the 71st Session of the WHO Regional Committee Meeting
From October 6-9, 2020 – The Department of Health and Social Affairs (DHSA) participated in the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee Meeting (WHO RCM). This year the 71st WHO RCM was held virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The RCM is like an executive board of the WHO Office in the Western Pacific Region that meets every year.
The FSM DHSA made several interventions on the agenda which includes vaccine, safe and affordable surgery, health and ageing and other administrative matters on how to improve the operations of the WHO country office.
“Vaccine is a public health good”, according to the Hon. Dr. Livingston Taulung, Secretary and Head of the FSM Delegation to the 71st WHO RCM. Secretary underscored the importance vaccine plays in our population health now more than ever given the plight of the COVID-19.
The FSM delegation ended its participation by thanking WHO and all FSM’s partners in the work they do either through multilateral or bilateral support to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
