Risk communication refers to the exchange of real-time information, advice and opinions between experts and people facing threats to their health, economic or social well-being. The ultimate purpose of risk communication is to enable people at risk to take informed decisions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
A national risk communication plan had been developed in conjunction with WHO to support and improved coordination and consistent approach to risk communication and community engagement for COVID-19 in FSM. This plan helps guide the National Government response to COVID-19, in partnership with the four states governments, civil societies, the diplomatic communities and our developing partners including WHO, IOM, SPC, UNICEF, Micronesian Red Cross Society and other key partners. This plan was developed to alignment with the COV-CON Stages 1 – 5, for each of the various stages of the response.
All States have actively engaged in outreaches in their respective communities at the onset of the pandemic. Risk Communication & Community Engagement Committees have identified and tasked to organize, coordinate and facilitate the education and sensitization of COVID-19.
